The Gaylord is enormous with pleasant rooms, free internet, free water, good tv and a very, very friendly and helpful staff that helps overcome the impersonal sterile feel (my college age daughter, who was with me, said i reminder her somehow of the Cheesecake Factory). However, the friendly staff completely forgot my wakeup call causing me to miss one very important meeting and be damaging late for another.. Of such seemingly little things are future lodging decisions made.

This is the exact letter I wrote to our corporate person in charge of conventions: I don’t know if you got the picture I sent you on New Year’s day (picture of a line 100 people deep to get the car out of valet), but I just had an awful experience at the DC Gaylord Hotel. I am confident in saying they cannot support a group our size and give the level of service we are accustomed to. I was there for New Years Eve at an event being held at the adjacent convention center. Waiting an hour to get the car out of Valet or waiting on hold for 30 minutes to place a room service order is unacceptable. There is 0 night life in town and their indoor pool might fit 30 people. Pete from my office stayed an additional night and had the same troubles the next day. He had breakfast at a hotel restaurant and said he had to send all the meals back. I doubt there is anything that can be done at this point but I would actually consider skipping the convention. I know this is not your fault but I felt the need to vent and warn you. For the consumers out there the price dropped dramatically within the two days of my visit. I found this out right after check in and they wouldn't honor the lower rate. There is also a "resort fee" that is charged at check in that is not quoted when you book.

I have stayed at the Gaylord Texan and the Gaylord Nashville so I came with high expectations and they were exceeded. The hote llobby and all publicspaces were breathtaking!!. The rooms were spacious and immaculate.Customer service is an obvious priortiy. My experience with front desk, housekeeping, concierge, hotel shuttle, shops, in room dining services all exceeded expectation. Staff was consistently friendly and most accomodating. Iwould stay here again and AGAIN and I plan to in the near future.

Stayed here five nights for a conference. The hotel is large, but much more user friendly than their property in Nashville. My room was clean and quiet and the staff was quite friendly, especially those at the front desk. Although there were several other groups at the hotel, the wait for an elevator was minimal or non existant. The only down side is that this hotel is not close to the District; $* cab ride to the mall, one way. Also, I thought it was odd that you are only provided plastic cups in your room, not proper glasses. Make sure you book a room in the atrium - my balcony had a great view of the Potomac.

Please note that if you want a King Bed 9 times out of 10 you will not be getting one. Only 500 of their 2000 rooms have King beds. Even though the travel agency lists it as an option on here once you get to the hotel they will be putting you in a double room. Also customer service is AWFUL! They think that just because they are a Gaylord they don't have to accommodate customers that have been inconvenienced. They gave me a room I didn't want, I checked in at 6:25 and I didn't get to my room until 6:45 because the elevataors were over crowded. When I called for a manager to address the concerns I had with my room, NO ONE called me back. I thought that that was VERY disrespectful. I will NEVER give the Gaylord at the National Harbor any of my money EVER again. My money is just as good as anyone else's and I should have been responded to in a timely manner. Go somewhere where they will appreciate you as an individual and your choice to stay with their hotel because clearly the Gaylord needs some work on customer service.
