my husband & i absolutely LOVE this place. the staff was wonderful & the history of the establishment is amazing. the rooms are clean and comfortable, but that's where it ends. there's definitely some wear & tear but that comes with an immense amount of history- and i wouldn't recommend staying here if you're used to having every human need tended to. the neighborhood is cool, certainly convenient for things like public transit & late night food. Check out the Trailer Park across the street for a drink with a little atmosphere. overall, i was very pleased. I'll never stay at another hotel in NYC.

Having read other reviews about this hotel I was not quite sure what to expect, however I was more than pleased when I arrived in the art flled lobby and was shown to my lovely brightly painted room at the front of the hotel. The room was spotlessly clean with a wonderful deco style bathroom, enormous flatscreen TV offering a huge range of channels as well as a kitchenette with fridge, microwave and hob. Although the hotel did not offer breakfast facilities there was a vast array of options within easy walking distance including a wonderful grocers offering fresh produce. The stair well, lobby and corridors were all adorned with art work creating the feel that you were staying in an art gallery. It's also worth mentioning that there was free wifi in the lobby which in today's world is always a huge plus. I know that the Chelsea might not be everyone's cup of tea but I for one would certainly return to this treasure trove of history and bohemian tales.

I've stayed at this hotel many times over the years, but the place has been totally ruined by the new management. Where the space used to be filled with life and vibrant personalities, the lobby is now like a funeral home. They've killed the charm of this place - will never stay there again.
