First, skip the valet as there is ample, cheaper parking on two sides of the hotel; we parked maybe 90 feet from the entrance. Our check-in Friday around 7:30 pm (after walking the mall) was fast and friendly. A low-numbered room that should have been well-worn was spacious and clean, and all was in working order, including the TV and AC. Very quiet despite being right above the lobby. Hot water was quick and plenty. Pool was open, but we did not use it, nor room service. Breakfast in the lobby was quite varied and there was plenty to go around; not fancy but still satisfying! Check-out at 9:30 am Saturday was equally efficient--no hidden charges! Left our car in the $* lot for the day while we hiked some more. Quite a jaunt from the Lincoln Memorial, but if you aren't willing to walk, maybe DC 's not the place for you!

This hotel was wonderful...We took a family trip and the location was perfect...Right up the street from Chinatown and in walking distance of the White House and National Monument and the Capital. Hotel Staff was very friendly and helpful...the breakfast was outstanding every morning...not the usual donuts and coffee..I mean eggs, sausage, fresh fruit, coffee, you make your own waffles...just excellent...the only thing was the homeless people across the street but the security of the building was excellent and the area is well lighted...Pool could have been a little cleaner but considering the time of year everyone wanted to swim or be in the jacuzzi. I would recommend this hotel to anyone...and the next time I visit Washington D.C I will definitely be staying at the Hampton Inn Convention Center...

A very nice Hampton Inn with comfortable rooms and a good breakfast. Breakfast from 8:15 to 9 is very busy. Hotel is just down the street from the Convention Center and easy walking distance to the Verizon Center and Chinatown. It is on the DC Circulator bus line (stop is just in front of the Historical Society of Washington DC) and a few blocks from the Metro. Not in the middle of the tourist sites but certainly within easy access. Be sure to stop in Historical Society of Washington DC to see the exhibits. The building is the old main library for Washington DC. The architectural details are worth the visit alone (entry is free). For a quick and good lunch go to Urfa Tomato Kebab. This is a tiny counter shop with a few seats inside and 4 outside tables on 6th Street NW between G & H. Good kebab. Make sure you get the spicy tomato sauce. For dinner, venture out to Inti a Peruvian Restaurant on 18th Street NW near T Street. If you go on Saturday try the Aji de Gallina (chicken stew in a nutty cheese sauce).

Our room at the Hampton Inn was very nice, and the breakfast every morning was great. We were disappointed in the pool -- there was so much chlorine that you couldn't even hardly sit in the room without your eyes burning. The closest metro to this hotel was China Town. When we first arrived in D.C. and exited out of this metro, it didn't appear to be the safest area; however, we got on/off the metro several times there and no one ever attempted to harm us, so I guess it's safe after all! Great trip -- lots of walking!
