It's a nice little funky hotel inside Chinatown! It's kinda old, but clean and safe. The air conditioning is incredibly strong, and there's cable TV in the room on a nice sized TV. Parking requires some creativity during the day, but if you're sightseeing all day, by the time you get back, the meters will be off, or close to it. There are plenty of great restaurants and souvenir shops, and it's right next to the train that heads into downtown. The staff is very nice, and the lounge had vending machines and internet, both Wi-Fi and an Ethernet cable. I'd totally stay there again!

When we checked in I asked if the room had the queen and double bed we reserved. NO, "It is the same"- it was 2 DOUBLE beds!. No explanation or apology offered, NO hairdryer, no clock, no nightstand light, no chest of drawers, no bath mat, no wash cloths. There was a coffee maker but no coffee or mugs to use. The TV only received 2 chinese language stations, 1 spanish language and HSN. Not even local news was available. NO ONE WAS FRIENDLY or even smiled much less asking if everything was okay. We were put on the third floor - NO ELEVATOR. NO bellman and no help offered from the front desk. ALSO - the shower is in violation of federal code- the COLD AND HOT WATER ARE REVERSED-VERY DANGEROUS!!!. It seemed to be clean, that is all I can say. I asked for a second room key and was told "NO"- "boss say only one" I would not stay here again.

I had to make last minute travel plans to Chicago for a job interview. I'm also a student, so I didn't want to break the bank. Chinatown fit the bill perfectly. The staff were very friendly and helpful. You shouldn't have any problems interacting with staff. They helped out whenever possible and did a respectable job. They also gave some good recommendations about where the best food in the neighborhood could be found. If you're a complete xenophobe you might have a problem but I honestly thought these people were great and did their job well. The room definitely won't be featured on any Travel Channel shows anytime soon but it was comfortable for my girlfriend and I. I was surprised that the bathroom amenities were as nice as they were. Brand new tile, nice toilet, and a piping hot shower with good pressure. We loved the Chinese language channels on the TV in our few down moments and while packing. The choice of paint job won't win any design awards but it won't affect you being able to sleep either. If your a priss and you need pomp and luxury you'd probably do best to take your pampered ego north to Michigan Ave. Location is what this hotel has in spades. It's right next to a red and green line station (Cermak-Chinatown), literally a 45 second walk from the front door. Late night eats abound in Chinatown. I traveled by train and it was very convenient to Union Station via Canal St. (taxi) or transit (red or green line). There's also a great jazz club just down the street, Velvet Room on Cermak. I'd recommend this hotel to any non-prissy traveler looking for a place to sleep in Chicago.

We decided to try the Chinatown Hotel, even though the reviews were mixed. We were pleasantly surprised. We had our four year old grandson with us, and Chinatown was a very interesting experience for him! The L was nearby, and so we were able to have easy access to the Shedd Aquarium, as well as Downtown. The rooms were small, but clean, and the service was very good.
