DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL!! The shower head visibly had built-up lime and/or mold on it. The window could not lock b/c it appeared to be installed incorrectly. We took pictures of both to prove it. The bed had a flat sheet tucked under to serve as a fitted sheet so, of course, it never stayed put. Also, don't make the mistake of letting the temperature in the room fall below 60 degrees. Then the true smell of the room seeps out!! It smelled of urine. The astonishing fact is that this was the Business Class room, the most expensive room they offer!! Also, we were outright accused of having more than 2 adults in our room simply b/c we requested more than 2 towels per day! Another rude employee told me that were only allowed one shower per day. He stated that the hotel was privately owned and did not have to abide by Howard Johnson's standards. We were denied access to the general manager. After being lied to twice about when the manager will be on the property, I demanded an explanation. I was told that we had no reason to complain, so the message was not forwarded to the manager. This rude employee, as an afterthought, told me that she knew that she should not have given us the room when we checked in!! Her comment must have been based on appearance alone, b/c we didn't run into a problem until maybe the third day, when we were denied more towels. This ruined our New York experience.

The room is ok for a quick shower before your night out on the town and a good night sleep when you get back. If you are looking for frills (of any kind), don't book here. My husband and I both said we would stay again (you can't beat the price). But I will not show up without my portable candles...............................and a can of lysol.

Okay, it's not the Ritz but for $90/night it's an EXCELLENT value. The hotel is small but has all the amenities you would expect from a 3-star. The breakfast wasn't much (tea, juice, muffin, cookies and bread...not even toast) but for the price that's alright. It was a 2 minute walk across to the subway which does run adjacent to the building. When you check in be sure to ask the front desk person for a room on the other side of the building. I felt safe in the hotel and the neighbourhood isn't shady like others make it sound because I was getting in at 3am. The only issue I had was on my last day because the corridor leading to the storage room for my luggage had a very wet carpet but since I was leaving and not staying on that floor it never cause me a problem. I'd definitely stay there again for the price and value.

It is surprising that Howard Johnson puts their name on this one! The Subway runs right over the top of the hotel! I sure didn't see that one coming. I had to be here in the Bronx this week and I chose this hotel because of the name. Boy was I wrong with that choice! I freaked when I walked into the room and the wallpaper was hanging off of the walls! I guess I fealt like it didn't stand up to the standards I expected!
