This was a beautiful hotel that lived up to every claim it makes on its website except for one. The sea turtle kids club is non-existant. We booked this hotel because of that claim. Once we arrived and inquired, we found out that we could schedule something and they would make it happen but it sounded a lot like baby sitting - not beach combing or building sand castles.. We have kids ages 10 and 7. We hoped for a program similar to Hyatt's, where activities were scheduled and kids could pop in and out. It just doesn't exist. So our big plan of getting alone time was shot. The restaurants nearby are so-so with the exception of Mezzaluna - that was great. But the hotel is gorgeous, they staff went out of their way every single time we made contact. The beach was beautiful, the rooms were comfortable. A DVD player was delivered to help fill time when needed with a plentiful library. We got a great value for our money. Other than the complaint above, we would recommend it to anyone and would consider staying again.

June 2010 - Great location and a beautifully refurbished hotel, but the room rate is only the beginning. The $*/day "resort fee" doesn't even get you a chair and umbrella on the beach. Bring your own or pay the beach crew. None of the chairs around the pool faced the ocean - a real lost opportunity. Would be nice if they expanded the pool deck so there could be more chairs, and face them toward the ocean. Be aware that you also pay a $*/day valet fee, and you have to call every time you want to use your car. No self-park or self-driveout. If there are a lot of people arriving when you want to go out, you will have a wait. Also inconvenient that you have to call to get ice (no self-serve) and then wait for someone to bring it to you (another tip opportunity?). Service was good and pretty friendly, but you do have to wait. Do I tip the valets each time, since I'm already paying $*/day for their service, whether or not I take out my car? The spa looked nice, and they give you a nice thick booklet to advertise the services offered, but no prices except for the men's services. It would be nice if they provided you with a map of the hotel to figure out how to find your way, and a list of TV channels. There is a cute doorbell on each room, which you can light up for privacy or for the room to be made up. Don't know if the staff know the system, tho. We turned on the "make up room" light at 9:00 AM. When we returned at 2:30PM the room was still not made up.

Overall, this was a nice hotel and one of the few located right on the beach near Jacksonville. We had an ocean-front room and at night it was nice to be able to have the door open so we could go to sleep to the sound of the waves. The room itself was pretty nice although the bathroom was really small. The bed and decor were nice and the room was clean. Since you have to pay a $25/day resort fee, the drinks in the mini-bar and the snacks were all included in the cost. Things like the shampoo and lotion are all from the spa so they too were nice. One of the things that threw us was the whole docent concept. When you first arrive, they meet you, give you the keys to your room and valet the car for you. Once you get to your room, the docent for that floor meets you and goes over things with you. This was kind of odd since we hadn't ever experienced this before. Of course, it's taken a bit to the extreme here. For instance, if you want coffee in the morning you call the docent and they have it brought to you. If you want 2 cups of coffee, they bring you both cups (since the cups were really small, I would go for 3 of them). By the time you get to the second or third cup, the coffee is getting a bit on the cool side. Not a huge thing, but the kind of thing you remember. Anyway, overall, we enjoyed ourselves and had a good time. There were some little things (not getting the shampoo refilled unless we asked for instance) that bothered us but it is a very nice hotel.
