My 2 girlfriends and I just wanted a place to stay that wasn't too sketchy but inexpensive for our weekend trip to NYC- this hotel was PERFECT! Our room had 2 beds and a decent bathroom- we didn't need anything fancy- we wanted the room soley to shower and sleep. No bed bugs- Clean sheets- that's all we cared about, and it was good. The elevator is TINY but the staff was friendly and accommodating to checking bags early (6am early) and holding them after we checked out (til 5pm). I'd say, no it wasn't "nice" as in fancy, pool, internet, all that- but we didn't go to NYC to stay in our hotel.. we went to explore the city-

This hotel is nothing overly fancy but it's just what I needed while staying in NYC. Upon arriving, I took note of what was near the hotel. There's a subway stop on the same block, a Duane Reade on the first floor of the building, and a Starbucks across the street. All of those came in VERY handy! I arrived in New York several hours before check-in and I was allowed to store my luggage for free while I looked around the city. The door man was EXTREMELY nice and accommodating. The check-in process was very fast. The halls were a bit of a maze, but nothing too difficult (ha ha) The room and bathroom were clean and well-heated with a very large window that let in a lot of light. The room was on the 4th floor and the outside noise level was acceptable. I could hear some noise from the hall and other rooms (mostly from the hall), but again, it was acceptable. The television was the worst part of my stay. There weren't many channels offered and they were all quite full of static. This wasn't as issue for me since I didn't come to NYC to watch television (ha ha)... Over all, for the price and location, this was a terrific value. I would be shocked if this hotel isn't booked solid every day of the year.

Wifi didn't work, ice machines only on every other floor, a door that was broken, inability to keep more than 2 of our 3 keycards working, maid service that always forgot something (if you take all our towels, leave some). several visits to the front desk, first floor smelled like a kitchen, dead roaches in the stairwell (near kitchen smell), elevators that can accommodate 2 comfortably, and generally a hotel that would be considered kind of a pit anywhere else, but it's in NY. They spent a lot to make the entrance look nice. Each floor seemed to be a different level of complaint (floor 1 = restaurant, 2 = ?, 3 = noise, 4 = run down, 5+?). I did not hate it, but it did not wow me. And with the broken in-room everything (including dresser drawers) I felt that I was getting about half of what I paid for. Location was fine. People seemed nice enough. Place just saw better days back in the 70's and they have not seen the need to fix the place up at all since then, nor do they seem to feel that if they offer free wifi in room perhaps it ought to work (I was there a week, never worked except in the lobby where people congregated to use the wifi they were promised). For what I paid and what I was promised I feel ripped off (I mean seriously, wifi, towels, toilet paper, working door, bathroom door that had been kicked in, etc...) unfortunately my full review is too long for this space.

For me, this was a great place to stay. It's not far from Penn Station, and its easy to get to by train or taxi. The rooms are small, but what space isn't small in NYC? The area is a pretty safe location and stores stay open fairly late. The only drawbacks are the tv/ channel selections, for one. I got stuck watching news and Legally Blonde 2 over and over! The other thing would be the lack of ice machines. There is supposed to be one, but the only one I found was broken. All in all, there are a few minor annoyances, but the location definitely makes up for it! This was my second time staying in this hotel within 2 months. I will more than likely book there again on my next trip. The staff is quite friendly and I have had their acquaintance, within my two stays there. I'll stick to what works for me! =)
