To call this a "resort and spa" is a little misleading. Though a spa is onsite, overall this is just an average hotel that's along the lines of a Comfort Inn with a colonial theme. The outdoor pool was fun and the grounds are beautiful. Our double-bedded queen room, though clean, was just your average standard hotel room with nothing special about it. If you stay here, try to stay in one of the renovated rooms. We were not in a renovated room, and the room showed some signs of wear and tear. The air conditioning unit had to be kept at 60 degrees to keep the room somewhat comfortable and was very noisy. Luckily for my husband and I, we have noisy kids. But if you need quiet to sleep, you're going to have problems in the older rooms. We did enjoy the nightly cookies and milk and friendly staff. The "executive suite," which required a code to enter, was a little pretentious since it's just a small room with a few snacks and chairs. I wasn't sure why a code was needed unless the point was to only allow hotel guests, and not conference attendees, to use it. Again, it was okay and average, nothing special. Would I recommend this hotel? For my family and our needs, we'd probably look for something else if we went to VA Beach again. The hotel wasn't bad, but it's not what I've come to think of when I hear "spa and resort." That implies overall luxury, and this hotel isn't luxiurious. But the price was good for a hotel off the beach, and there were a lot of things nearby such as restaurant and shopping. If you want a true resort and spa, go to Kings Mill in Williamsburg, VA.

What can I say about The Founders Inn and Spa, except EXCELLENT!! I had arranged a Fourth of July weekend trip for a bunch of us and had reserved 3 rooms. Check in time was 4pm but we had arrived by 10 am. The staff at the front desk were so courtious and were able to get our check in started and found us rooms immediately. We were given access to the lounge while we waited to have the rooms prepared, and had refreshments and snacks. The rooms were cozy and very cleanand the bathrooms clean and plenty of fresh towels, but the most incredible thing about the rooms were the beds. I had the best nights sleep there. I forgot to ask what matresses they use. The pool was great, and both adults and kids enjoyed it much. The fitness center is extremely well equipped for all sorts of workouts. It was not your typical hotel gym, but a true gym that you must pay membership for. The grounds are also beautiful to walk around and it is a 10-15 minute drive from the beach. What else is there to say that has not been said already. The service, the amenities, and what a bed for a good night sleep = Extreme Value. Everyone had a fantastic time on our first trip to Virginia Beach/Norfolk, and i definitely will not be our last. We will definitely got to The Founders Inn and Spa on our next trip there.

Superbly maintained, elegant grounds, spacious and well-appointed rooms, and well-equipped gym and a generally professional feel from the staff. A very appealing rate (about $* a night) finally drew us to stay here (we'd often thought of trying this hotel since it's near relatives). The lake and landscaping are most impressive and thoroughly relaxing, and the room service menu is quite extensive. You really can't go wrong with the Founders Inn.

  • Would stay again

The hotel wonderful. We arrived around 10:30 pm and the desk clerk was very friendly. She told me that the room was already paid for thanks to the online travel website but there was a $ 25.00 hold on my card for incidentals. I kinda wish they would have let me know when I booked the trip but nevertheless it was a pleasant experience. The rooms were how it was in the pictures. I have been to this hotel before and I am aware of how they look. Please note that it is colonial style wall paper, draperies, linen and furiture. The carpet is several colors( stripe). Overall it is very clean. After getting into bed, the bed is so comfortable, the people that checked in the next room be side us was very loud and the kids was running up and down the halls. I woke up insteady and was very upset. It was 1:00 am in the morning and they didn't care what kind of noise they were making. I called down stairs and asked them to do something about these people. Ten minutes later I heard silence. But I was determined I wouldn't stay beside these people another nite so I went to the desk and asked for another room. To my surprise, they gave me an upgrade for the trouble I had experience the nite before. I didn't have a hard time moving my stuff to another room . My room was a king suite with the fireplace it was sooooo nice and quiet. It was our 17th wedding anniversary and I really enjoyed that last night stay.
