I have been an annual passholder to universal studios for the last 8 years and have stayed at the Portofino all of my visits. My last visit was in May of 2011 and I must say I was rather disappointed in the hotel. The rooms have not changed in 8 years other than TV's and the cleaniness of te rooms were sub par. We alway stay on the Bayside and we had ants in our room coming off the balcony which was never taken care of to the point of changing rooms was the only option. I love going to Universal and staying at the Portofino just for the fact that I show my room key and walk right on the rides, eating at Mama Della's just for the food and talking to Mamma Della herself, the staff there is awesome, Noel the bellmanwho always takes care of us and the front desk who is always accomodating but the have to do upgrades to the hotel and cleaning staff. Hopefully this will be done by my next visit as they told me updating will be done this fall.

My BFF and I wanted to go have a weekend getaway just girls. It was her birthday. We stayed at this hotel. I booked a garden view room. We ended up on the second floor looking at trees and a walkway. If someone was standing or walking on the walkway they could look right into the room. Room was not cheap, Hair dryer did not work. Remote for TV didn't work right. I have stayed in timeshares that were cleaner than this room. We paid 22.00 + taxes were parking each day. The boat shuttle to Universal was great. The early morning opening at 8AM was good. We were there at 815 am and got right on the ride.

We went to Portofino after previously staying at the Hard Rock because we got a better deal and wow we were so amazed. Where do I start- the rooms are immaculate and so relaxing with such attention to detail. The staff is friendly and we felt very welcome #40not stuffy or pretentious whatsoever#41. The quotpiazzaquot is a wonderful place to hang out and relax have some appetizers and wine after a hectic day at the park- we started looking forward to going back to the hotel every day! The restaurants are inexpensive with high quality food #40and I am really picky- had terrible food and service at the Hard Rock#41 try Sals for breakfast lunch and dinner! The pools are wonderful- one has slides and waterfalls another is a classic greek or roman themed and another I didnt even need to check out #40Hard Rock has one large pool that only goes to 3 feet deep!~#41 The way the sun sets on the buildings makes you feel like you are really in Italy or as close as I will probably ever get. We went last May and are going again this May and we cannot wait to get back to our Portofino!! #40Get a bay view- itquots worth it#41

We stayed at Portofino Bay Hotel December 18 - 21, 2010, a very busy time of year. My husband and I take our kids (12 and 8) to Orlando every Christmas for a few days and until this year had always stayed on-site at Disney. We wanted to see the Harry Potter World at Universal, so we decided to try the Portofino Bay this year. We arrived at 1 pm. Check-in is at 4, but that is usually not a problem at most high-end hotels, as this one purports to be. The front desk said that no room was ready, but that one would be ready soon. Almost TWO HOURS later, the only room available was one that was located at the dead end of one of the wings. By this time we were exhausted and decided to tough it out and get the only available room. I must note that the hotel did not seem to be very busy. Check-in was not mobbed. Suffice it to say, the check-in was a portent of things to come. Service was very poor, and the general attitude of the staff was indifferent at best. The room was not very clean, room service trays from dinner were still in the hallway the next morning, even though we called for removal. Not at all like a Disney hotel. This was a big disappointment, and we will not be back.

We loved the hotel, everyone was very polite and we had a lovely room. We decided the next time we come there, we will just stay there rather than go to the parks. We loved the piazzas, the music and the restaurants.
