I have found the Hotel Buckminster to be a reliable stay. Nothing fancy or luxurious but clean, well located with a helpful and curteous staff. Metro is 1 block away, Fenway Park is 1 block away and there are a variety of restaurants within easy walking distance. Do ask for room with a street view as there are a few which look out into the elevator shaft (although if looking for peace and quiet those rooms are fine too.) Breakfast is all you can eat cereals, bagels, danish, juice and coffee and the room rates (including this breakfast) are always the lowest in the city. Neighborhood is safe and there is a parking garage (hotel gets a discount) very near. The Ritz it ain't but for a girl on a budget it's perfect.

After reading some of the reviews on this and other sites, I was bracing myself for a long uncomfortable night. However, I was very pleased with the Hotel Buckminster and can only offer a few minor quibbles. There was a bit of construction/painting going on outside and inside the hotel, but nothing too inconvenient. There is also a very slight musty odor throughout the building, but again nothing too severe. And strangely, lots of things in my room were unplugged (clock radio, lamp and microwave). I didn't use the parking garage or eat the continental breakfast, so I can't comment on those. But the incredible location, just a short walk from a subway stop and right across the street from Fenway Park served my needs perfectly.

we came up to boston from cape cod for my birthday. this hotel had an affordable price, but it was NOT worth the trouble. the view from the window was great and the room was clean enough, but the water in the shower was freezing. i called the front desk and the man said sometimes you have to keep the shower running for 15 minutes before the hot water reaches those pipes. i never used the elevator because i felt like it was going to fall off its cable any minute. the front desk staff are sketchy- i am convinced they stole my credit card number because two days later fraudulent charges showed up on my account. i would NOT recommend staying here.

This hotel had the best of both worlds. It had a great location and a fabulous price. We were going to Boston for the first time but didn't want to spend an arm and a leg for a hotel. We found it in this fabulous hotel. We read plenty of reviews but the review that convinced us was the one on About.com. If you are in the area it's a great deal.

The hotel looks nothing like the advertistment. The front lobby is not inviting. I felt a sense of uncomfort just standing in the lobby. The elevator is old and shabby. The halls are constructed like a maze. If the light goes out in the hall, you will have to feel your way to an exit, if you do not run into a dead end. The rooms are ancient looking. I love antique furniture, but this hotel has horrible furniture. The stove in the suites are from the 70s. The bathrooms look like cheap labor. The bath tub has rust in the tub and by the drain. The rooms are creepy and scary. I was in shock. I checked out the same night. It is a shame that a hotel with great history is going down in the dumps. The hotel needs to be sold to an owner that appreciate their guest and the property.
